What Is the FortisBC Appliance Maintenance Rebate?
FortisBC is offering a maximum of $150 for homeowners who service their heating appliances between June 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025. Here’s a full cost breakdown of the rebate amount per appliance:
- Furnace or Boiler: $50
- Natural gas fireplace: $25 (up to two)
- Tankless water heater: $50
You need to apply for the rebates within 60 days of your service. It must be a full safety check and the technician must be a certified gas fitter.
This rebate exists for one reason: to encourage homeowners to get their gas equipment serviced each year. Without it, you could be left without heat when you need it most.
How This Rebate Helps Homeowners
FortisBC rebates can give you the push you need to get a service. Your natural gas furnace could be on its last legs, even without any major signs of wear and tear. These checks are an investment into your home’s safety; and are much cheaper than fixing a furnace, boiler, gas fireplace, or water heater that isn’t working.

Who is Eligible for the Rebate?
FortisBC rebates are exclusively for residential customers. Strata dwellings are only eligible if each unit has a separate meter.
There are also some conditions surrounding the appliances themselves. For example, you can only get a rebate for one tankless water heater. Heaters with storage tanks and outdoor fireplaces are also not eligible. In addition, only two fireplaces at maximum will qualify for rebates. No matter the appliance, your rebate cannot exceed the service cost.
The service must also be a thorough safety check. It should look at every natural gas component to see if they are working properly. For example, proper furnace maintenance includes testing the gas pressure, checking the safety controls, and inspecting the heat exchanger.
How To Apply for Appliance Maintenance Rebates
The rebate application process is relatively straightforward. In fact, FortisBC offers a simple online form to complete.
When starting your application, the FortisBC website will prompt you to sign in and answer a series of questions which include when you serviced your appliances, the cost, and other relevant details.
Once you complete it, simply submit your application. You’ll get updates via email. This includes your application’s reference number. You should receive your rebate within 90 days.
