What is a High-Efficiency Boiler?
High-efficiency boilers are also sometimes called condensing boilers. They work similarly to conventional boilers, but the newer design heat exchangers allow for the production of more heat while using less energy, resulting in less energy waste and lower monthly bills.
Do I Need a New Boiler?
Not necessarily. If your current boiler isn’t high-efficiency, you can keep operating it as normal until it requires replacement down the road. At that time, you will need to upgrade to a new high-efficiency boiler.
Will it Cost a Lot of Money?
High-efficiency boilers are more expensive to buy and install than conventional boilers, but they do save money in the long term by lowering your monthly heating bills. Fortunately, you can get a significant chunk of money back, in the form of a rebate from FortisBC for installing a high-efficiency boiler in order to help offset the up-front costs.
Fortis Rebates for Upgrading to a High-Efficiency Boiler
FortisBC is currently offering money rebates to BC residents in an effort to encourage folks to upgrade to more environmentally friendly appliances. Currently, when you upgrade to an eligible ENERGY STAR® high-efficiency boiler, you can get up to $1,500 back from FortisBC. Keep in mind that rebates are subject to change–check the FortisBC website for the latest info.
